Understanding Depression

At Bloom and Prosper, we understand that depression is more than just feeling blue. It’s a collection of symptoms that can lead to a loss of motivation, a loss of joy and life satisfaction. It can cause fatigue, interrupt sleep, increase feelings of not being worthy, and more. If you have been experiencing depression, know that you're not alone. Experiencing depression is a deeply human experience that many people will encounter. While it’s natural at time to feel overwhelmed, tired, unmotivated and disinterested, these feelings intensified can impact our overall sense of life satisfaction. At Bloom and Prosper we help navigate depression with support and understanding.

What Causes Depression?

Depression is influenced by a variety of factors, including genetics, environment, life situations, and our thoughts. By increasing understanding these factors, you can feel more empowered and make it easier to seek the right support.

Genetics

Depression can run in families, meaning you may have a genetic predisposition. This is a piece of your story, it does not define you.

Biology

Changes in brain chemistry can affect mood. Neurotransmitters like serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine play a role in how you feel. These biological factors are just another chapter in the book.

Life Stressors

Stressful events, such as loss, difficult relationships, or financial strain, can increase the risk of depression. It’s ok to not be ok during difficult times, know that help is available.

Our Inner Narrator

How we think and define ourselves and our situation matters. Negative thought patterns or diminished self-esteem can contribute to how we feel. But these patterns can be changed with guidance and support, allowing us to be better narrators of our story.

Treatment

Depression is something you're experiencing, not who you are. At Bloom and Prosper we offer a compassionate, personalized approach that honors your experiences. Our goal is to help you reconnect with your sense of purpose and joy using evidence-based treatments for depression that have shown real results. These treatments include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and mindfulness practices. Treatment is a collaborative effort, where we work together to understand your past, present, and future goals. Your treatment plan is individualized to meet you where you are at and help you reach your goals for recovery. If you are struggling with depression, know that with the right support you can rediscover meaning, purpose and joy.
