Understanding Anxiety.

Anxiety is a natural part of being human. It is our built-in alarm system, and it has been with us since the dawn of time. Its function is to protect us, but sometimes, that alarm gets a little too loud and persistent. At Bloom and Prosper, we understand, anxiety can be experienced as persistent worries, restlessness, or a sense of dread or feelings that the other shoe is about to drop. Therapy can help us establish a better understanding of our anxiety and provide tools to manage it.  and even harness its power for good.

Anxiety Can Be Helpful.

In small doses, anxiety can be helpful. It's that little nudge that gets you moving, helps you connect with others, and pushes you to prepare for what's ahead. When you feel anxious, your brain releases dopamine, that "feel-good" motivator that encourages you to chase your goals.

However, when anxiety becomes persistent and pervasive, that's when it starts to interfere with your life by impacting your relationships, your work, and your overall happiness. If this sounds familiar, know that you are not alone, and help is within reach.

Why Is Anxiety So Common Today?

Modern society can contribute to more anxiety.  The economy, social pressures, the news cycles, and the constant buzz of technology can be overwhelmed. It's can feel like our brains are on alert continuously.

What Causes Anxiety?

Genetics

Anxiety can run in families. If your relatives have experienced it, you may be more likely to as well.

Biology

Brain chemicals like serotonin and dopamine play a big role in how you feel. Changes in these chemicals can affect your anxiety levels.

Environment

Stressful events at work, worries about money or big life changes can trigger or worsen anxiety levels.

Mindset

Thoughts matter. Negative thoughts, patterns of avoidance and diminished esteem can all exacerbate anxiety.
