Understanding Codependency.
Many people experience codependency, a pattern of behavior where we seek approval and identity from others, even if it cost us our own well-being. Codependency often stems from a desire to care for others, but it can lead to an imbalance where your own needs are neglected. Codependency was originally understood in the context of addiction but can show up in other relationships where there is a pattern of enabling and overdependence. Overtime, these patterns in relationships can diminish self-worth and impact life satisfaction. By recognizing these patterns, we can begin to take the first steps towards recovering and developing healthier connections in relationships.

Recognize the Signs.
Do you often find yourself putting others' needs before your own? Do you long for deeper, more balanced relationships? Do you say “no” when you want to say “ yes”? Do you prioritize the needs of others over you own- leading to feeling exhausted and overwhelmed? Do you feel responsible for the emotions of others? Do you seek approval from others due to fear of abandonment? Do you struggle to express what you need or want in relationships? Do you feel anxious when you are alone? Do you cover up for other’s mistakes or minimize yourself?
If this sounds familiar, just know that you are not alone. These patterns can be changed, and you can develop mutually satisfying relationships
